World Architecture Day, celebrated on the first Monday of October every year, was set up by the Union International des Architects (UIA) back in 2005 to “remind the world of its collective responsibility for the future of the human habitat”. The UIA, who represents more than 1.3 million architects around the world, announced the overarching theme for 2015 - 2016: 'Architecture, Building, Climate'.

In an effort to underscore the contributions of architects worldwide, UIA president - Malaysian architect Esa Mohamed, will spearhead the organisation in leading a series of events and sessions devoted to responsible design, planning and building during the COP 21 meetings to be held in Paris - 30 November -11 December this year.

"As the world’s national governments approach COP 21, the international climate treaty negotiations taking place later this year, the UIA will join with national and regional architecture organisations to highlight the essential role of architecture, design and town planning in reducing associated greenhouse gas emissions " - the organisation said during their announcement.
